The Admin HubWhat's the Best Way to Handle Online Trolls?
My best approach is, Ignore them. I used to reply before, but it only made things worse. Now I just laugh, block, and move on. You can’t argue sense into someone that logged in to insult.
Ignoring online trolls unless you have to intervene is the best way to deal with them. Sometimes you will find you get a member who trolls, but they mean no harm. If that ends up being the case, but some members do not feel comfortable with their behaviour, then I would speak up and have a word with them.
Those who choose to troll just to cause issues around the forum, I tend to ban them outright.
Fishing and banning them is what I will also do as long as I've tried talking to them and they didn't listen to me. I will just do it and hope not to see them anywhere near my community again.
I haven’t dealt with many trolls myself, but I think the best approach is a mix of clear rules, timely moderation, and not feeding the trolls. Ignoring low-level provocations while removing harmful content helps keep the community safe without escalating conflicts.
