The culture of respect for elders has been something that is as old as time itself. For some cultures, it means not questioning the decision of elders. In other cultures, it means not talking s firmly to people that are older than you. In other cultures still, it simply means that you must give up your rights of it conflicts with that of someone that is older than you.

What does respect for elders or older people mean to you personally?

Respect for elders to me means to hold people that are older than you in high esteem. With that, it implies that I should not do anything that would disregard someone that is older than me. Be it in my speech or actions. And I expect same from people that I am older than too.

Do not argue even when they are wrong. One of the common disrespect for old people is when young people prove them wrong. Well, just because they are old does not mean they are right but telling them they are wrong on their face is a huge disrespect. Not talking back to old people is one of the common ways to respect elders in our country.

That's a very oppressive culture. When one is wrong, they can respectfully be disagreed with. Respect doesn't mean that one should not have a differing opinion.

Respect for elders just implies that you regard their superior experience. Talk to them respectfully and not in a casual manner.

Respect for me is obedience and submission. I see respect for elders as a way of surrendering to superior leaderdhip. I believe they have what it takes to actually advice and guide so I always hold them in high esteem and have deep regards for them.

Saying that you have 18 years old or over then you could assume your decision without respect of opinion of elder is complete wrong decision. You should get their opinion and share ideas even parents or grand father.
