Is the Movie Theater Experience Still Worth the Cost?

Ticket prices and snacks keep rising while streaming gets easier. In my place, price of one movie ticket along with some snacks inside the theatre is more than the cost of streaming service subscription for the entire month. What motivates you to watch a film in theaters now? Are premium formats like IMAX and Dolby worth the extra money? Which recent movie convinced you that theaters still matter?

For me it's only worth going to theaters for big visual spectacles like Dune or Top Gun Maverick where the sound and massive screen actually add to the experience. IMAX is worth it for those kinds of movies but not for regular dramas or comedies I can enjoy just fine at home. The cost is ridiculous though.

I can't stomach the price for it these days.

I don't watch enough TV or movies to justify it.

I would go see horror movies so I can review them pretty quickly. But I did that alone because I was single. It's depressing to go to the movies alone LOL

If I were doing something like that, I'd budget for movies.

But no thanks if I'm not - I got better things to spend that on!

Yes, it is worth going to the cinema, but not going alone. I don't normally enjoy going to the cinema alone nowadays and it is simply because it is not the best movie that I would always make. I enjoy going to the cinema when I go with my woman. It is more exciting that way.

I don't go to movies too often, however, when a big banner movies with big stars are released, I prefer to watch them on theatres. I am planning to watch the new Avatar movie on theater. Since I go to theaters occassionally, I think the cost is justified.
