With the laptops, phones and tablets, our productivity should be enhanced, but if not used properly, it can also reduce our productivity as well. For me, I learned to switch off notifications when working and that has been a lifesaver. If I don’t, WhatsApp group notifications alone can distract me. I also try to use only one device per task, like laptop for work, phone for calls and music. That keep things very simple.
How do you cope with distractions?

I turn off notifications for most apps. Once Instagram or X start buzzing, it will affect your productivity for sure. I usually put my phone far away and use only one device at a time. If not, you will just find yourself jumping from work to meme, then to WhatsApp gossip and so on. 🤣

I work online, so devices are not my distractions, they help me to work online. I work on laptop, I use phone to connect and communicate with clients, and tab to read, sometimes even watch videos. Devices help me work more efficiently. If there were no devices, I wouldn't be able to work online.

By default, notifications from WhatsApp and other social media platforms are turned off when I am working. And I make sure that I completely keep one device away when I am working on the other device. My laptop is turned off by default if I am working on my smartphone. I silence my smartphone completely if I am working on my laptop. With that, I can stay focused while working.

I keep notifications limited, and sync everything across devices so I don’t waste time switching between various devices. For instance, I don’t have to use my phone when I receive WhatsApp message, if I am on computer at that moment, I will just use it on my computer.

That's smart switching off notifications.. I do the same thing constant pings destroy focus completely. I also put my phone in another room when I really need to concentrate otherwise I'll check it every few minutes out of habit.

If you can't do this, it's a lack of discipline. Believe me, if you have discipline, it's impossible to get distracted, and you can perfectly well stay productive. It's a matter of willpower and taking action.
