In my early days of blogging, I used donation based monetization , I did not have traffic so earning from ads wasn’t possible, therefore I simply asked my friends and family to support me via PayPal donations. In my first month, I made $50, which covered my annual expenses on domain and hosting. I haven’t used for forums though, have you used donation based monetization?

I used to run my personal blog back in 2018 but I never really relied on donation-based monetization. It’s great that it worked for you to cover expenses early on. I think it’s a smart way to keep things running especially when traffic isn’t high yet.

I haven’t used donations on my blog or forum, but I have used a similar approach when selling digital products. I’d offer the item for free and simply ask anyone who downloaded it to buy me a coffee if they found it helpful. Sometimes I received donations

At this time, I'm treating premium membership like a donation rather than a product.

The price is really low. However, so are the features of the membership.

I haven't tried donations cause it seems like begging. I think that can seem obnoxious.

However, though, some things are cool for donations like St Judes or PBS or some Patreon thing delivering quality content.

Hmm, donations are tricky. I tried it once on a small community, added “support us” button. people were active but nobody donated. It was zero, not even $1. I'm not blaming anyone because the economy is hard.
